Sight Night 2015

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated and sponsored World Cataract Foundation’s 11th Annual Sight Night held on Friday night, August 28, 2015 at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis. Guests enjoyed piano entertainment by Dr. Andre Duvall, fabulous food and a great collection of silent auction items, including a Schwarzwalder Kirshtorte prepared by WCF Board member, Richard Myers.

Special entertainment was provided by Mr. Tom Sullivan, well-known actor, singer, motivational speaker, author and producer. Tom was born prematurely in 1947. Too much oxygen cost him his eyesight. Never knowing what it was to see, Sullivan didn’t let blindness keep him from doing the things he loved. Changing the rules slightly, Sullivan was able to play backyard baseball as a child and has gone on to become an excellent golfer, an avid snow skier, a marathon runner, and a wrestling enthusiast. Tom’s performance was inspirational and enjoyed by all!

World Cataract Foundation presented Cathy Schanzer, M.D., F.A.C.S. with the 2015 Freeman Vision Award. Dr. Schanzer and her husband, Tom Lewis, established the Southern Eye Clinic of Serabu in Sierra Leone, West Africa where hundreds of surgeries are performed and thousands of patients are treated every year.
