Ethiopia
Ethiopia is the second largest country in Africa. There are less than 100 ophthalmologists serving over 94 million people. The prevalence of bilateral blindness is 1.6% with the majority of cases (70%) due to cataract or trachoma. By 2020, Sight for Souls projects they will annually be peforming 10,000+ surgeries, providing 100,000+ patient visits, employing 100+ Ethiopian medical and support staff and enrolling 5-10 African ophthalmologists in training.
