Surgical/Teaching Mission to Haiti

August 1-4, 2019

Drs. Chris Fleming, John Freeman and Steve Sterling, Barbara Elmore, Elizabeth Clemmons and Hannah Freeman participated in a surgical/teaching mission at the Grace Children’s Hospital in Port au Prince in August of 2019. Seven Haitian nurses and eight ophthalmologists rotated in and out to work with the team. They performed 33 cataract surgeries including phaco and small incision procedures. Working together in an operating room provides opportunities for doctors and nurses to share skills and knowledge, observe different surgical techniques and the teamwork approach to surgery.
